Top 10: Reasons to Purchase Paraben Free Products
1. What are parabens?- Parabens are synthetic chemicals that are used as preservatives in personal care products. They mimic estrogen and disturb the body's natural hormone levels. To avoid parabens, do not purchase products with any ingredient that ends in "paraben."
2. Parabens are bad.- Parabens, can interfere with the body's natural hormone function and have been linked to cancer and reproductive disorders.
3.They really are absorbed into the body.- When the Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently did a study using teenage girls as their subjects, parabens were among the chemicals that were found in both the blood and urine samples gathered.
4. Really, parabens are absorbed.- In the EWG's study, parabens were found in every single one of the 20 girls tested.
5. They are everywhere.- When an EWG toxicologist did a study of the dangerous chemicals found in a sample of beauty products, he found them in nearly 7,500 products.
6. Parabens can cause cancer.- These estrogen-mimickers have been found in breast tumors, linked to breast cancer and known to cause hormonal activity in the body.
7. Protect the planet.- Products containing parabens wind up in our water systems after use.
8. Protect your hormones.- Parabens can disrupt the hormone (endocrine) system.
9. Protect your family.- According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) when testing nearly 100 adults, parabens were found in the urine of nearly all subjects.
10. Everyone's doing it.- Many companies have already phased parabens out of their formulations, just compare labels from a few years ago to today, the results are very interesting.
